In Theory - Sirivinda In Theory is a wonderfully basic and enjoyable 'I just discovered I'm gay because of you' free fic. There's some angst and drama, as to be expected with such a plot line, but really it's just a sweet story that focuses on the growing relationship between the two MCs.

It's hard to determine exactly why I liked this story so much, but I think it's because the author did such a wonderful job with the characterization. The plot is pretty standard, but the author succeeds in the GFy-ish trope where many have failed, for the aforementioned reason.

And thank goodness Zie does. Frankly, I was beginning to worry about myself as all of my favorite MCs in m/m were either disabled (mute, blind, or otherwise), or almost caricatures (damaged boy, flamer, drag queen, sensitive jock, etc). I began to wonder "Am I abnormal?"

Apparently not. I loved these characters- and they were normal, sane, and undamaged. So, kudos to the author for writing wonderful, real, basic characters and making them resonate. In a basic story without random unnecessary happenings.

Thanks for the story!
Running Blind - Lee Child .
Echo Burning - Lee Child Once we got past the female MC, I enjoyed it.
Secrets Hidden in Silence - Rayne Auster Here's the thing- the story is very original and riveting. The author obviously loves the work, and, at the core, there's something compelling about this story that makes you keep reading.

I hate to be the naysayer, especially when it's obvious how much love went into this. Buuuut.... I must.

First person. For me- it doesn't work here. It feels full on tell-y and distanced me from the MC. A lot. I don't know how you would do this story in any other tense buuuuuutttt it didn't work for me.

The story. Waaaaayyyyy too much happened for me. There were a lot of high impact issues int his story, but they lost impact for me die to the sheer quantity. These were HEAVY issues that didn't impact me as much as they should have.

Anyhow, sorry :( it just didn't hit it for me.
But, it's a personal preference kid of thing. And, really, I think there's certainly talent here. I will look for more from this author, even if this wasn't my thing.
Crash Landers - gyzym Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. A cute, slightly angsty romance, that certainly doesn't suffer from the excess verbiage that seems to plague fanfic. Quite enjoyable ;)
Straight On Till Morning - FayJay Student prince snippet.
Heart in Hand - salifiable Unnecessarily long, but good enough to keep
me up reading ;)
Three's Company - N.R. Walker Yawn
Killing Floor - Lee Child Certainly Terminator-esque, but enjoyable.
Some Kind of Magic - R. Cooper I really enjoyed the main story and characterization, but the side plot and back story were muddled and confusing. Needed more sleep to attempt this one.
Fettered - Lyn Gala Excellent BDSM exploration story with a very interesting subplot. There are three things that Gala did exceptionally well that really set this story apart:

Atmosphere: the tone of the book was somewhat a dark thrum. The author skillfully set that tone immediately, and maintained it throughout- not a small skill. This was a story you couldn't tell the ending from chapter 1. Yay!

Characters: All if the character were real, lifelike, and (generally) sympathetic. There were a fair number of characters in this story, and NOT ONE got lost in the mix.

BDSM: Gala took a common theme in m/m romance and made it unique. Zie eschewed the common route of safewords and 'safer' pay for a darker, riskier side, BUT IT WORKED. Normally I would be complaining heartily at the liberties taken, but 1) this fit the characters perfectly 2) It furthered the tone and tension of the book, and 3) It heightened rather than minimized the relationship between the two MCs.

And if, on occasion I wanted to slap Dilly (ahem, Dylan) for his naïveté, well, that fit too.

Bravo, Lynn Gala, Bravo.

The Happy Onion - Ally Blue One day three ducks were at a park blowing bubbles. Then a cop comes up to them and says "Hey you can't be blowing bubbles in the park". So the cop hauls all three ducks to the police station. So at the Police Station the Booking Office asks" Okay first duck come on over, so whats your name? " The first duck says Quack is my name. The officer then asks " What are you here for?" The ducks says " Because I was blowing bubbles in the park." The officer then says " we'll that's just dumb, get out of here." The officer now tells the second duck to come over and asks " Whats your name?" The duck responds " My name is Quack Quack." The cop chuckles and then asks " What did you do that got you in trouble?" The duck says " Well i was just blowing bubbles in the park. The officer says " Well that just doesn't make sense, get out of here." The second duck leaves very happy. Now the officer calls over the third duck and asks " Let me guess your name is Quack Quack Quack. " The third duck laughs and says " Oh no, My name is Bubbles.

Ok, so that's not a review, but really, when you nickname an MC "Bubbles", that's all I've got.
Plan B - S.J.D. Peterson Damn! What a good book!

There may have been some tropes, cliches, etc. but I DIDN'T CARE.

Hi, my name is Ery, and I'm an emotional reader.

The summary is fairly accurate, so no repeats here. What I really enjoyed was Danny's strength, as books with more effeminate characters tend to make them more damaged/needy. Not so much of that here (except that he falls for Mr-in-the-closet).

The pacing was stellar, the sex was hot. There was actual, believable emotion throughout. There was just enough angst and uncertainty to keep me riveted.

Why not a five? It kind of fell off at the end. Of course, that may be because I was still up reading at 3 am.....
Hero - Perry Moore Hero was an enjoyable superhero story reminiscent of the tv series 'Heroes' (weird, I know), combined with a comic. The main character, Thom, is a high school student struggling with the fact he is gay and developing superpowers. The fact he is developing powers is exciting to him, particularly when he gets the opportunity to try out for the "league", a law enforcement organization, of sorts, which is well-respected amongst the general population (unlike homosexuality). Unfortunately, he must hide his developing superpowers, and his sexuality, from his father- who strongly disapproves of both. Written with a wry, but subtle humor, this story was a nice blend of fun imagination and an individual coming to terms with who he is. Combined with that are the standard struggles of coming out, family trials, and aspirations to be part of something greater. Love is certainly involved, but the theme of familial love and acceptance is stronger than romantic love, which, while present, takes a backseat here. This was a nice, fun, and interesting read that touches on some heavier YA topics with a lighthearted touch.
Alone On the Water - Mad_Lori *sob

Horribly depressing. Most beautifully written.

Not a traditional romance, but who cares.
Tell Me It's Real - T.J. Klune Too snarky/smart for me, but it had some amazingly sweet and touching moments.
